connecting beneficiary families to the local water pipeline by following the drawing and technical specification from the NWSDB in excavating the earth, laying the pipes, compacting, backfilling, pressure testing and performing the disinfection test before the final connection of an additional of 2.2 miles (4 kilometers) extension lines. The goal of this project is to increase access to treated-drinking water at the household level by mobilizing vulnerable target beneficiaries, and to connect them as users to the water supply pipeline in Pottuvil Division.
ADRA Sri Lanka will provide 1,539 households in 7 GN Divisions of Pottuvil, Ampara District with adequate access to clean water by connecting them to existing water pipelines.
In addition to this, the project expects to benefit 60 public places including schools, health and
community centers, religious places and government departments, benefiting approximately 5,000 people.
CUPP is scheduled to end in August 2010. Since the 2004 tsunami, ADRA Sri Lanka has been working in the Pottuvil Division of Sri Lanka, providing emergency water trucking services, creating semi permanent water sources and helping families improve their basic living conditions.
