Though many things have been done, like empowering communities to address their basic needs, building and repairing houses and latrines in new settlements away from the vulnerable
zones, drilling wells and installing hand pumps and water tanks, there is much to do in helping communities have access to health services and nutrition awareness.
ADRA Sri Lanka’s Health And Nutrition Assistance (HANA) Project contributes to the recovery process of tsunami-affected population by raising awareness on health and nutrition among 500 women of reproductive age in the 3 GN Divisions of Seenimodara West, Nidahasgama West and Marakolliya in Tangalle Division, Hambantota and strengthening the government health care system by building capacity of the 27 Midwives along with the rest of the MOH staff of Tangalle by conducting trainings, providing clinical equipment and other basic needs for the Health Centers and Refurbishing the community Multi-Purpose Centers which will be used for checkups for mothers and children and for holding nutrition session and cooking demonstrations.
HANA project started on April 1, 2009 is funded by Swiss Solidarity and ADRA Switzerland and has duration of 18 months.
