Protection, Repatriation Preparedness and Shelter
Improvement with Sri Lankan Refugees
(PRS-SLR)

 

ADRA Sri Lanka seeks advices through the government in the North and East part of Sri Lanka for the respective resettled areas as part of mapping and assessment activities. The mapping and assessment result is then given to ADRA India to further collaborate with UNHCR and Indian government for the possible return of the returnees to Sri Lanka.

Under the advice of the local Government Agent in Vavuniya District and close coordination with the implementing partners in the region for shelter/NFI cluster coordination meeting, ADRA Sri Lanka is able to avoid the duplicating and overlapping during the implementation in helping the resettled families; the project activities are to build 30 transitional/semi - permanent shelter and latrines, (expected to build more under the advice of the donor), assisting 30 returnees families
(expected to do more) through a livelihood assistance; 15 families goat farming and 15 families with home gardening. This project will also provide 5 sanitation blocks for the returnees and rehabilitating 5 water source to increase their access for water, sanitation and hygiene issues.

This project supposed to start by December 2009 and was actively implemented under government advice and direction by March 2010. This project will last up to September 15, 2010 and funded by European Commission and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) as a donor.
